Sydney, Australia – Nearly a decade after the brutal murder of Indian IT professional Prabha Arun Kumar in Parramatta Park, New South Wales authorities have announced a $1 million reward for information leading to the arrest of her killer.
Prabha, 41, was fatally stabbed on the night of March 7, 2015, while walking home through Parramatta Park after finishing work. At the time of the attack, she was speaking on the phone with her husband in India, who tragically heard her final moments before the call was cut off.
Despite extensive police investigations, no suspect has ever been identified. Detectives believe the random and ruthless nature of the attack suggests it was pre-planned.
“This was a horrific and senseless crime. Someone out there knows what happened, and we urge them to come forward,” said a NSW Police spokesperson.
In a fresh appeal for justice, the NSW Government announced the $1 million reward in October 2024, hoping it will encourage witnesses or those with critical information to break their silence.
Authorities believe the case could be solved with new leads, especially with advances in forensic analysis and public cooperation.
“This is not just about finding the murderer; it’s about bringing peace to Prabha’s family, who have suffered for too long without answers,” the spokesperson added.
Prabha's family, including her husband and young daughter, have spent the past nine years waiting for justice. Her murder sent shockwaves through the Indian-Australian community, prompting concerns about safety for international workers in Sydney.
Friends and family describe Prabha as a kind, hardworking woman who moved to Australia to provide a better life for her loved ones.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or visit their website to submit an anonymous tip.
Authorities remain hopeful that someone, somewhere, knows the truth—and that justice for Prabha Arun Kumar is still possible.
