Kings Park, Sydney – In a momentous announcement welcomed with joy and gratitude by the local Hindu community, Michelle Rowland MP, Labor Member for Greenway, confirmed a $1.3 million election commitment from the Albanese Labor Government to support the establishment of the Nilkanth Community Hub in Kings Park.
The funding will assist Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Bhuj in converting its existing warehouse into a dynamic multipurpose facility for the community. The planned hub will cater to all age groups, offering a vital space for cultural events, educational workshops, language and music classes, and youth engagement programs including sports activities.
Speaking at a recent community gathering, Ms. Rowland acknowledged the immense contribution of the Mandir in enriching the cultural fabric of Western Sydney.
“This commitment from the Albanese Labor Government will support enhanced cultural, social, and recreational opportunities for our community in Greenway and across Western Sydney,” said Ms. Rowland.
“I had the honour of attending the opening of this Mandir in Kings Park over a decade ago and have cherished watching it grow. This new investment will help the community progress into its next exciting chapter.”
The announcement also recognized support from key federal leaders, including the Minister for Home Affairs, the Hon. Tony Burke MP, and the Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs, the Hon. Julian Hill MP, underscoring the Government’s commitment to fostering multicultural inclusivity and supporting grassroots cultural infrastructure.
Drawing on the rich spiritual heritage of the Swaminarayan tradition, the evening also reflected on stories of divine sacrifice and cosmic balance—such as the legendary churning of the ocean and the role of Lord Shiva in saving the world—mirroring the enduring values of service and unity that the community continues to uphold.
The evening concluded with applause and hope, as Ms. Rowland shared her anticipation of being present for the official opening of the new facility.
“Jai Shree Swaminarayan!” she said, warmly thanking the community for their welcome and partnership.
The funding commitment will be delivered in accordance with the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles, ensuring transparency and proper governance in the project’s execution.
