AIRPORT RAIL LINK CLOSER TO TAKEOFF AS JOINT AGREEMENT SIGNED

Melbourne Airport Rail Link (MARL) is set to become a reality, with the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments formally signing off on the project.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced the signing of the Heads of Agreement today, which sets out the strategic objectives, governance arrangements and information sharing processes for the $10 billion joint commitment.

Mr Morrison said the people of Melbourne and Victoria had been waiting far too long for the rail link to become a reality.

$400,000 TO SUPPORT GRASSROOTS RUGBY IN WESTERN SYDNEY

Young people from migrant backgrounds across 20 schools in Western Sydney will be encouraged to play rugby union through the Western Sydney Migrants Partnership program.

 

The NSW Government has provided NSW Rugby Union (NSWRU) $400,000 over four years to develop the program and promote positive health outcomes for young people.

Mental health support services during a crisis will be easier to access for adults and children across NSW, thanks to the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government.

 

Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro and Minister for Mental Health Tanya Davies today announced more than $23 million to expand capacity at Lifeline and Kids Helpline.

 

More than $5 million of this will support Kids Helpline to answer an extra 18,400 calls per year, and $6 million will enable Lifeline to introduce their Crisis SMS Service trial into NSW for the first time.

EXTRA BILL RELIEF WITH SOLAR ENERGY & BATTERY ROLL OUT

Up to 300,000 households across NSW could save hundreds of dollars on their power bills thanks to a no-interest loan provided by the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government to purchase solar-battery and battery systems.

FUNDING TO SUPPORT WOMEN AND CHILDREN ESCAPING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Hundreds more women and children escaping domestic and family violence will have a safe place to sleep with a $78 million investment by the Morrison Government.

 

This investment includes a $60 million grants program for eligible organisations to provide new or expanded emergency accommodation facilities for those escaping domestic and family violence.

NEW HELP WITH POWER BILLS FOR SELF-FUNDED RETIREES

For the first time, around 130,000 self-funded retirees will be able to claim $200 a year to help with their power bills, thanks to a new initiative from the NSW Government aimed at taking cost of living pressure off our seniors.

 

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the new rebate has been made possible because of the strong economic management of the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government.

 

The rebates will be available to customers who hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card through Service NSW centres and online from 1 July 2019.

Council misconduct tops complaint list

COUNCIL MISCONDUCT TOPS COMPLAINT LIST

For the second year in a row, council misconduct allegations have topped the annual list of complaints by residents and ratepayers.

Minister for Local Government Gabrielle Upton says this outcome underlies the need for the new codes of conduct released earlier this year.

Ms Upton said 823 complaints were received by the Office of Local Government about NSW councils in 2017/18, compared to 811 lodged the previous year.
