Cricket Australia (CA) is pleased to announce a new men’s Test naming rights partnership with NRMA Insurance, one of Australia’s most trusted brands.

NRMA Insurance will also be the Official Insurance Partner of both the Men’s and Women’s International Cricket Teams, as well as supporting community cricket across the country.

NRMA Insurance will hold the naming rights for all men’s Test series in Australia for the next four seasons, including the iconic Sydney Pink Test in support of the McGrath Foundation.

The partnership will begin with the forthcoming men’s Test series against the West Indies and South Africa.

This will be the first time NRMA Insurance has taken a national tier one partnership with an Australian sporting code, enabling the brand to bolster its national presence, and further demonstrating the wide reach and strong reputation of cricket as Australia’s national sport.

While the NRMA Insurance brand will be prominent at Australia’s iconic cricket stadiums, the partnership will also have significant benefits for local communities and cricket clubs.

As a part of this partnership, NRMA Insurance will work with CA to support the sport’s continued growth, which relies heavily on a large network of volunteers and helpers. NRMA Insurance will celebrate and advocate for these helpers, who are the lifeblood of Australian cricket.

Cricket Australia Chief Executive Officer Nick Hockley said:

“We are extremely proud to partner with NRMA Insurance and are delighted that cricket has been chosen as the sport to promote its iconic Australian brand.

“This partnership further emphasises the enduring popularity of Test cricket with the Australian public.

“We are particularly excited that NRMA Insurance shares cricket’s passion for helping local communities, meaning that benefits for clubs and volunteers will be significant.

“This is a great way to start a momentous summer of cricket and we look forward to NRMA Insurance becoming a prominent part of the cricket family going forward."

NRMA Insurance Group Executive Julie Batch said:

“This is a significant and purpose-led partnership for NRMA Insurance. Cricket is considered Australia’s national sport, and one that is built on community connection, so it was the ideal partnership to support the continued growth of NRMA Insurance across the country as we deliver on our brand promise of Help.

“NRMA Insurance has been helping Australians for nearly 100 years and we believe in the power of help in building resilient communities.

“Without the helpers behind our national teams, the families that support and encourage the stars of today and tomorrow, and the 220,000 volunteers across community club cricket nationwide, Australian cricket simply wouldn’t exist.

“In partnership with Cricket Australia, we look forward to celebrating the local communities and volunteers that make this great game possible and hopefully inspire others to help too.”

Phonics education technique shown to have positive impact on literacy | Education | The GuardianThe teaching of reading using phonics will be a compulsory part of the classroom from 2021 onwards.

Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said the evidence of phonics effectiveness is undeniable, and from 2021 all Year 1 NSW public school students will undergo a compulsory phonics check.

"The evidence speaks for itself. The best results in reading for our students occurs when phonics is explicitly and systematically taught in Year 1 before moving on to other forms of reading instruction," Ms Mitchell said.

"We are building a curriculum and an education system that focuses on strong foundations using best practice.

"Using phonics to build strong reading foundations in the early years of school opens doors to success later in life."

This year 520 NSW government primary schools joined a trial of the Phonics screening check with 23,975 Year 1 students participating.

The results of the trial were immediately available to teachers and aligned with the NSW English syllabus, allowing them to identify gaps in their students reading ability quickly.

In addition to the instant results, teachers received online professional development to deliver effective reading instruction to students.

Ms Mitchell said that 98 per cent of teachers who were part of the trial found the information the Phonics Screening Check provided about students' knowledge was beneficial and had an impact on their classroom practice.

"More than 95 per cent of teachers also said that they benefitted from the professional learning and resources to assist them in implementing the assessment, analysing the results and planning for what to do next in the classroom," Ms Mitchell said.

"Tools like the phonics check are providing teachers with the data they need to provide targeted support to students who need it most."

"Because phonics is an efficient tool to teach reading, and the check is an effective way to identify gaps, schools will also be set phonics check targets.

"We are ambitious for our schools and have a responsibility to deliver the best education to our students in a way that we know is the most effective.

"A phonics target means that the ability to teach reading successfully becomes a measurable responsibility for our teachers and principals.

"This is an exciting time for education in NSW. We are implementing initiatives that are world leading and that have been created using the best evidence."

NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service - Get Tested (Nepali) | Facebook

Multicultural communities across NSW will benefit from new initiatives promoting cancer screening and prevention and appropriate support for people with cancer.

Acting Minister for Multiculturalism Geoff Lee today announced almost $280,000 for 12 cancer control projects delivered through the Cancer Institute NSW.

They will focus on improving the care experiences and health outcomes of diverse communities as part of the 2020 Innovation in Cancer Control grants.

“We know culturally and linguistically diverse communities experience unique challenges when it comes to accessing health information, advice and culturally appropriate care and support,” Mr Lee said.

“These grants will support people from backgrounds that need extra support through their cancer journey including Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Sinhalese and Vietnamese speakers.”

Pink Sari Inc has been awarded two grants worth $40,000 to support projects aimed at increasing cervical screening awareness among women from Indian and Sri Lankan backgrounds and improving access to support services for people with cancer and their carers.

President of Pink Sari Inc Shantha Viswanathan said partnering with the NSW Government was key to taking the stigma away from cancer.

“There can be stigma attached to a cancer diagnosis and we want people in our community to feel empowered and to put their health first. Cancer screening really can save your life and, for those who are diagnosed, access to culturally safe services makes a huge difference,” Ms Viswanathan said.

Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of the Cancer Institute NSW, Professor David Currow, said the grants program focuses on improving the experience of people and carers affected by cancer and reducing the instances of unwarranted clinical variation.

“We know that cancer is an incredibly complicated and emotional topic at the best of times. These grants will improve health outcomes for communities most at risk and will be delivered by trusted organisations with the necessary relationships and expertise,” Professor Currow said.

Other successful grants include:

-          Providing one on one, in-language and culturally appropriate support for Arabic and Korean speakers diagnosed with breast cancer

-          Localised community education sessions on cervical and breast screening targeted at multicultural communities, using the Institute’s in-language resources.

-          Development of videos on demand to improve the experiences of Mandarin speaking patients and their carers, by providing tailored, practical education, easily available throughout their cancer journey and during their survivorship
