Public transport customers can now obtain and top up their Opal cards at Service NSW centres, making it even easier for people to make the switch from paper tickets.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance and Minister for Finance, Services and Property Dominic Perrottet made the announcement this morning at the Wynyard Service NSW centre – one of eight new locations to offer Opal card facilities.
“Opal has transformed the way people catch public transport, with around 4 million cards issued and 9 million trips taken every week,” Mr Constance said.
“With most paper tickets to no longer be sold from 1 January 2016, customers need to get on board with Opal and embrace our cheap and easy ticketing system. By partnering with Service NSW centres, we’re providing another option for people to make the switch.”
Opal facilities are now available at regional Service NSW centres in Gosford, Newcastle, Wollongong, Kiama, Goulburn and Bathurst, as well as at the Wynyard and Liverpool centres. Transaction and sales numbers will be monitored to determine more potential sites in the future.
Mr Perrottet said the customers at the participating sites can now purchase Adult or Child/Youth Opal Cards, top-up existing cards, and check card balances, with the improved access to Opal facilities to particularly benefit customers at the participating regional sites.
“Service NSW and the Opal card have both independently revolutionised service delivery, making it easier and simpler to deal with government,” he said.
“With more than 800 transactions and services already available at Service NSW centres, this is another great service that customers can access in the one convenient location.”
