NSW has recorded the lowest unemployment rate of any state and has had more than half of the nation’s jobs growth over the past 12 months, today’s ABS figures have confirmed.

Treasurer Gladys Berejiklian has welcomed the news as further proof that NSW is the number one economy in Australia.

“NSW is again outperforming the rest of the nation, with our unemployment rate falling to 5.9 per cent in September – below the national average,” Ms Berejiklian said.

The NSW unemployment rate has been at or below the national rate for the last 23 consecutive months.

Around 123,000 jobs were created in NSW through the year to September, accounting for more than half of the jobs added nationally.

Employment increased by 3.4 per cent through the year to September 2015 – well above national growth of 2.0 per cent.

“The NSW economy is going from strength to strength, and I am pleased that this is driving employment growth,” Ms Berejiklian said.

Since April 2011, around 250,000 jobs have been created in NSW – which is well above the next largest state increase of 143,000 in Victoria.
