The NSW Government is continuing to support BlueScope workers find a job for the future by waiving qualification fees, Minister for Skills John Barilaro and Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward announced today.
Mr Barilaro said the NSW Government is introducing this new training policy to continue supporting workers who want to transition to a new career.
“Learning new skills will allow workers to participate in growing industries in the region, such as advanced manufacturing as well as Information and Communications Technology,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Vocational training is an effective way to upskill, change careers and most importantly secure a job,” he said
Those who undertake training can choose from the more than 700 qualifications subsidised by the NSW Government – including both full and part qualifications.
BlueScope workers made redundant have the opportunity to learn new skills, get a full qualification without a fee or complete shorter qualifications to help secure a job.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast Gareth Ward said this will help develop the skills base of our local economy and reinforces the NSW Government’s ongoing support for the region.
“This is about ensuring workers and their families have more opportunities to secure a job for the future,” Mr Ward said.
“The Illawarra region is facing unique challenges and the Government has provided unique responses to the issues arising. I thank the Minister for the opportunity to provide options and opportunities for those who are most vulnerable,” he said.
