The NSW Government and IMG today announced fashion house Oscar de la Renta will close this year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) becoming one of the first international brands to present alongside Australia’s leading designers in Sydney.
Oscar de la Renta will be making its Australian runway debut on Friday 20 May at 8:00 pm in The Runway at Carriageworks in Sydney.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said the move was a strong endorsement of the strategic decision to shift Sydney’s MBFWA.
“Oscar de la Renta is one of the world’s leading luxury brands and its presence at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia reinforces Sydney as a global fashion capital,” Mr Ayres said.
“The attention of the fashion world will be firmly focussed on Sydney this May with the most influential buyers and media converging to see our local creative talent and designers make their mark and shine alongside renowned international brands,” Mr Ayres said.
Oscar de la Renta, a New York based fashion house, was established in 1965 by its namesake and is currently under the creative direction of Peter Copping.
Oscar de la Renta will be presented at MBFWA by Etihad Airways and supported by MBFWA strategic partner the New South Wales Government’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.
