An innovative training initiative driven by TAFE NSW will enable Indigenous students to provide a unique experience for visitors to Barangaroo from this weekend, Minister for Skills John Barilaro announced today.
Mr Barilaro said the Yulang Unit and Foundation Studies Eora, in collaboration with Tourism Ultimo and the Barangaroo Delivery Authority have designed the training strategy - leading to ongoing employment opportunities.
“Five of the students will be given the opportunity to be employed as Visitor Services Guides, with the remaining participants supported and mentored into other positions,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The industry partnership with TAFE and the Barangaroo Delivery Authority builds on previous industry partnerships and is another example of how these partnerships and TAFE can deliver jobs for students,” he said.
A graduation event held today included 14 students and the initiative will contribute to the quality of the public’s experience at the new headland park to build upon Barangaroo’s future economic prosperity.
Sydney TAFE conducted research into the role of Tour Guides and used the findings to design a customised a three-week preparation program. TAFE will work on a case management basis to support maximum job outcomes.
