More than 3000 young people from culturally diverse backgrounds are set to reap the benefits of a rugby league program designed to break down social barriers. Acting Minister for Multiculturalism and Sport Geoff Lee announced $400,000 in funding over four years for the Try League program, run by the NSW Rugby League. “This program provides a wonderful opportunity for young people from a diverse range of backgrounds to form friendships, learn rugby league and most of all have fun,” Mr Lee said. “Sport is a unique part of our identity as Australians, and a powerful way to promote inclusion, participation and community spirit.” Mr Lee said the funding will see the program recruit young people from across Western Sydney, South Western Sydney and Coffs Harbour. “This NSW Government funding initiative will encourage greater participation in Rugby League by creating a welcoming atmosphere for kids of all backgrounds. We’re looking forward to a great partnership with NSW Rugby League”. NSW Rugby League CEO David Trodden said sport plays a crucial role in binding communities together. “We know New South Wales has some of the most passionate rugby league fans but to harness that passion and use it to unite the community is awesome to see. I’m so glad the NSW Government has committed to this fantastic program,” Mr Trodden said. For more information go to: https://www.nswrl.com.au/community/try-league/.
