Bollywood Actor Alia Bhatt Stuns at Cannes in Gucci’s First-Ever Bespoke Saree

Bollywood star Alia Bhatt made a dazzling fashion statement at the closing ceremony of the 78th Cannes Film Festival by wearing Gucci’s first-ever bespoke saree-inspired ensemble, marking a historic moment for the iconic luxury brand.

The 32-year-old actor appeared on the red carpet in a shimmering silver mesh outfit intricately adorned with Gucci’s signature GG logo and Swarovski crystals. The custom creation featured a saree-inspired drape, complete with a blouse, skirt, and a dupatta-like drape elegantly flowing from her left shoulder, blending traditional Indian silhouette with modern haute couture.

In a social media post, Gucci described Bhatt’s attire as “a milestone for the brand” and “an ode to Indian heritage.” Vogue praised the look as a perfect fusion of cultural symbolism and contemporary style.

Bhatt complemented the minimalist yet glamorous outfit with subtle makeup featuring kohl-lined eyes and a delicate diamond tennis necklace worn as a choker, completing her ethereal appearance.

Speaking to the media at Cannes, Alia Bhatt shared her excitement: “There’s something absolutely special about firsts – and I’m so thrilled to make my Festival de Cannes debut this year, an iconic celebration of cinema and self-expression.”

Earlier during the event, Bhatt also turned heads in a custom Schiaparelli haute couture ensemble, showcasing her versatility on one of cinema’s biggest stages.

This standout moment comes on the heels of Bhatt’s memorable appearance at the 2024 Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala in New York, where she wore a heavily embroidered mint-green saree by renowned Indian couturier Sabyasachi. The saree featured a dramatic 23-foot train and embodied the gala’s “The Garden of Time” theme.

Alia Bhatt’s presence at Cannes highlights her growing influence not only in cinema but also as a global fashion icon representing Indian culture on the world stage.

Meanwhile, the prestigious Palme d’Or was awarded to Iranian director Jafar Panahi’s revenge thriller It Was Just An Accident, a powerful film that resonates globally, especially given Panahi’s 15-year filmmaking ban by the Iranian government.
