Islamabad, June 4, 2025 — Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has made explosive claims on social media, accusing Pakistan’s current Army Chief, General Asim Munir, of turning against his wife out of personal vendetta.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Khan alleged that General Munir’s hostility towards his family began after he was removed from his position as Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) during Khan's tenure as Prime Minister. “The General began targeting my wife not because of any national interest, but because of personal revenge,” Khan wrote.
The startling accusation adds a new layer of controversy to the already strained civil-military relations in Pakistan. Khan, who has had an increasingly adversarial relationship with the military establishment since his ousting in a no-confidence vote in 2022, has frequently alleged that the army plays a manipulative role in the country’s political landscape.
Khan’s latest statement comes amid ongoing legal and political challenges. He remains in custody, facing multiple charges related to corruption, terrorism, and contempt of court — all of which he claims are politically motivated.
While the Pakistan Army has yet to issue an official response to these allegations, political analysts suggest the timing and personal nature of Khan’s remarks indicate a further deterioration in the former premier’s relationship with the country’s powerful military leadership.
The post has ignited fresh debates in Pakistan’s media and political circles, with supporters and critics divided over the credibility and implications of Khan’s claim. Some view it as a desperate move to garner public sympathy, while others believe it exposes the entrenched power struggles within Pakistan’s ruling elite.
As the country heads into another turbulent political phase, Khan’s revelations are likely to increase tensions between the military and the civilian political class — a fault line that has long defined Pakistan's governance structure.
