India launched a scathing rebuttal against Pakistan at the United Nations, condemning its repeated attempts to internationalize internal matters and accusing it of blatant hypocrisy. In a strongly worded statement, India called out Pakistan for delivering sermons on human rights and peace while being complicit in the killing of innocent civilians and the targeting of places of worship.
Speaking at the UN, Indian diplomat Pratik Mathur said, “It is deeply ironic that a country which has institutionalized discrimination and promotes cross-border terrorism is attempting to lecture others on human rights and minority protection. Preaching peace after sponsoring violence is the height of hypocrisy.”
The Indian representative’s remarks came after Pakistan once again raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir at the UN forum. Mathur asserted that Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, are integral and inalienable parts of India, and that Pakistan has no locus standi to comment on India’s internal affairs.
He further stated that Pakistan continues to provide safe haven to globally designated terrorists and has a long-standing record of persecution against its own minorities. “The world has not forgotten the tragic 26/11 Mumbai attacks, nor the countless lives lost due to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,” Mathur emphasized.
India's statement also referred to repeated incidents in Pakistan where places of worship, including temples and churches, have been desecrated or destroyed, and minorities have been targeted with impunity.
The Indian delegation urged the global community to hold Pakistan accountable for its actions and not fall for its victim-playing tactics at international forums.
This latest exchange underscores the continued diplomatic tension between the two South Asian neighbors, particularly over the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, cross-border terrorism, and minority rights.
