Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed the killing of Mohammad Sinwar, a top Hamas commander and the brother of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, in an ongoing military operation in Gaza.
In a major announcement, PM Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces successfully eliminated Mohammad Sinwar, who was believed to be playing a pivotal role in orchestrating attacks against Israel during the current conflict. He described the killing as a "significant blow" to Hamas's command structure.
“We have eliminated Mohammad Sinwar. He was one of the masterminds of Hamas's terror activities and a central figure in the Gaza command. This is an important achievement in our ongoing campaign,” said Netanyahu.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have not yet released full operational details but confirmed that the strike was part of a broader effort to dismantle the upper echelon of Hamas's leadership.
Mohammad Sinwar was considered the operational head in Gaza and a critical link in the network managed by his brother Yahya Sinwar, who remains one of Israel’s most wanted figures.
This development comes amid heightened tensions and intensified military action in Gaza, following weeks of cross-border exchanges that have drawn international concern and calls for de-escalation.
Hamas has not yet confirmed or responded publicly to the claim.
The killing is expected to escalate the conflict further, with both sides continuing to exchange fire. International observers fear this could lead to another round of intensified violence unless diplomatic intervention is initiated soon.
