New Delhi, June 6, 2025 — A historic change is set to mark the upcoming India-England Test series. Beginning June 20, the two cricketing giants will compete in a five-match Test series for a newly introduced trophy: the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, replacing the iconic Pataudi Trophy.
According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have mutually agreed to rename the trophy in honour of two modern-day greats — Sachin Tendulkar, India's batting maestro, and James Anderson, England’s legendary fast bowler. This move symbolizes the contributions of both players in redefining Test cricket during their illustrious careers.
The Pataudi Trophy, which was instituted in 2007 to commemorate the legacy of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, had been awarded during England's tours to India. However, this new trophy is seen as a way to reflect the shared cricketing legacy of the modern era, appealing to a younger generation of fans while still honouring excellence in the red-ball format.
Tendulkar, with over 15,000 Test runs, and Anderson, the highest wicket-taker among fast bowlers in Test history, have both elevated the standard of the game globally. The series promises to be a fitting tribute to their legacy, especially as Anderson is expected to retire after this series, marking the end of an era.
The five-match series is scheduled across iconic English venues and will serve as a crucial part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25 cycle. Both teams are currently in contention for a spot in the WTC Final, making this series even more significant.
More details about the official unveiling of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy are expected in the coming days. The cricketing world now eagerly awaits what could be one of the most celebrated Test series in recent times.
