Government to introduce legislation to abolish Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal

The Australian Government has outlined its plan to improve the safety of the road transport industry by abolishing the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal and redirecting Tribunal resources to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester, who addressed a convoy of truck drivers campaigning for the change today in Canberra, said that safety was at the heart of the Australian Government’s plans.

“In 2012, the Labor Government established the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal, suggesting that if you pay a truck driver more, they’ll drive slower and work fewer hours,” Mr Chester said.

The ANZ Stateometer has once again shown that the NSW economy is the strongest in the nation and continues to outperform the other states.

$4.6m for Aussie companies to storm new markets

A new emergency protection system for storm-damaged buildings is among the latest innovations to receive commercialisation assistance through the Australian Government’s Entrepreneurs’ Programme.

Assistant Minister for Innovation Wyatt Roy today announced that nine companies had been offered $4.6 million in commercialisation grants to help their innovative products and services penetrate international markets.

Regional NSW is a bigger jobs creator than the whole of Queensland, the latest ABS data showed, proving that the benefits of being the nation’s strongest economy are being experienced right across the State.

 

The official figures released today showed that 59,700 jobs were added in the regions in the year to March, an increase of five per cent. The number accounts for about half the number of jobs added in NSW and is greater than the number of jobs added in Queensland.
