Minister for Veterans Affairs David Elliott, in partnership with ClubsNSW, today launched the Premier’s Anzac Ambassadors Program, which will give young people the opportunity to visit historic Anzac sites during the remainder of the Centenary of WWI.

 

This year’s program is open to Year 10 and 11 students from across NSW and six young people will retrace the steps of Australian soldiers across Athens, Lemnos, Crete, Paris, Ieper and the Somme in April 2016.

Public transport customers can now obtain and top up their Opal cards at Service NSW centres, making it even easier for people to make the switch from paper tickets.

NSW GOVERNMENT COMMENCES TALKS FOR SYRIAN AND IRAQI REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT

The new NSW Coordinator-General for Refugee Resettlement has commenced initial discussions with relevant community, education and private sector groups to support the resettlement of Syrian and Iraqi refugees in NSW.

 

Professor Peter Shergold AC, appointed to the role last month by NSW Premier Mike Baird, said he was pleased to assume the role and looked forward to preparing for the arrival of the first refugees, expected before the end of the year.

Minister for Disability Services John Ajaka today launched ‘Who Cares?’ – an app that provides support for young carers whilst speaking at the Carer Day Conference at Western Sydney University.

 

Who Cares?’ is designed to help young people from 12 years old who care for loved ones with a disability or illness.

 

Mr Ajaka said that more than 100,000 of the 850,000 carers in NSW are under the age of 25.

NSW BEACH SCORECARDS WILL WHET SWIMMERS’ APPETITE

The 2014-15 Beachwatch scorecard has rated 96 per cent of the state’s ocean beaches as good or very good, which makes NSW ocean beaches among some of the cleanest in Australia.

 

Environment Minister Mark Speakman today released Beachwatch’s scorecard, the State of the Beaches report, for 241 swimming sites.

 

The Office of Environment and Heritage’s report provides ratings for 139 ocean beaches as well as estuarine beaches, lake and lagoon sites and ocean baths across NSW.

Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Victor Dominello has today released a discussion paper for the design of a Consumer Complaints Register. The  Register will hold publically available information on the traders most complained about to NSW Fair Trading.
